Citizen Kain (part 2)

Citizen Kane had a hunger that drove him. He had wealth, women, and whatever he wanted, but his hunger was never quenched.

He hungered to be loved.

Being abandoned by his mother at a young age created that desire that was never filled in his life. He tried to buy love and friends, but he knew that that's not love.

There's a powerful story here. The human condition is beautifully displayed. The movie should make us reflect on ourselves. What drives me? What hunger am I trying to quench?

I wonder what could Kane have done to quench his hunger? Where could he find the security and love that was lost when his mother signed him away? What could he have done differently?

Throughout the movie, people speculate about Kane and what he meant by his last words, "rosebud." Many people in the movie hypothesis that it's something he lost. Roger Ebert, in the commentry, talks about how in the movie there's this them that happiness is there foreveryone, but it's fleeting. You can miss it. You can lose it.

What I like about this movie is that it doesn't give any answers. Knowing that Rosebud is a sled isn't the answer. The movie leaves us with a question: Where could Kane have found his happiness?
